Construction is underway on the $526.8 million Ryde Hospital Redevelopment, with Premier Chris Minns and Minister for Health Ryan Park joining local health workers for a traditional sod-turning event.

The redevelopment will transform healthcare delivery for Ryde and surrounding communities, and ensure people can get the care they need close to home.

When complete, communities will benefit from new and enhanced facilities, including an expanded emergency department, medical imaging department, intensive care unit, operating theatres, a new paediatric short stay unit, and more.

The project will also feature improved accessibility, contemporary education, training and research facilities, along with additional on-site parking.

The new hospital building is scheduled for completion in 2027, with the new main entry, demolition of former buildings and landscaping to take place in 2028.

Below is a video of the 'sod-turning' ceremony featuring a welcome to country and a smoking ceremony to cleanse the site and create a positive environment for the project and the future hospital and its visitors.
