Ryde Hospital Redevelopment - through the eyes of a staff member

Ros Blewitt, a long serving staff member of Ryde Hospital and the Clinical Nurse Consultant for Critical Care, spoke with the Ryde Hospital Redevelopment team about her involvement in the planning and design and what excites her most about the redevelopment.

Project user groups have brought together staff members like Ros to contribute to the design of the redevelopment through active collaboration with architects, staff, and the project team. There have been over 245 project user groups and working group meetings held, with more than 120 staff members from around 25 health units and departments involved.

The redevelopment team has been progressing the early works to prepare the hospital for the main works construction. The main works construction contract is expected to be awarded in late 2023.

The redevelopment will transform the delivery of healthcare for the Ryde local community, ensuring people can get the care they need close to home.

Ryde Hospital Redevelopment - through the eyes of a consumer

It has been a long journey for the Ryde Hospital Redevelopment, and we are still only at the beginning! 

Since the project announcement in May 2019 there has been consultation around many aspects; location, the hospital’s clinical service plan, design and history. 

Just to name a few. Following an Expression of Interest application process in late 2021, the Ryde Hospital Redevelopment Consumer Reference Group (CRG) was established, forming a partnership between the project team and the community. 

Throughout 2022 the group has contributed to the design of the redevelopment by providing input on a range of aspects of the project including wayfinding, public waiting areas, patient experience and landscaping.



The group will continue to meet in 2023 to continue their work. In this video, CRG member and long-time Ryde resident Warren Smith talks about his involvement in the project, the redevelopment process and what he is most excited for with the new Ryde Hospital.
